Product Features Leading
anti-virus technology The
McAfee anti-virus scan engine stops every
type of virus and malicious code threat,
including “traditional” viruses, email
worms, Internet worms, DDoS (distributed
denial-of-service) attacks, backdoor and
remote access Trojans, and zombies. Using
technology that drills down into compressed
data, Active Mail Protection is also able to
find hidden threats buried in .zip and other
compressed file types. Proactive
protection is delivered through advanced
heuristics and generic detection, which
allow Active Mail Protection to protect—in
advance—against new, unseen viruses and
other threats.

Sophisticated spam blocking
McAfee SpamKiller®, powered by SpamAssassin,
applies an extensive set of rules to each
email, scoring each on the basis of
characteristics that are indicative of spam
messages. There are five levels of spam
detection: - Integrity
analysis – SpamKiller examines the
header, layout, and organization of each
email message to identify the common
characteristics of spam
-
Heuristic detection – A series of
internal tests determines the likelihood
of a message being spam; each test
carries a score to help reduce false
positives
-
Content filtering – Each email is
checked for key words or phrases that
might indicate that the message is spam
-
Black- and whitelists – Blacklists
are lists of known spam senders;
whitelists are known senders of possible
spam that users still want to receive.
Users can create their own lists to
control which messages reach their inbox
-
Self-tuning – SpamKiller learns the
characteristics of the email you receive
and adjusts the "overall spam rating"
accordingly, reducing the chance of
false-positive identification

Content filtering and management
The Internet is not the only entry point for
a virus—collaborative environments such as
email servers are also at risk. McAfee
GroupShield specifically protects this layer
of the network, with anti-virus support for
Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange servers.
Sending an email is the same as using
corporate letterhead. Hateful or otherwise
offensive themes can result in legal
liability for companies of all sizes.
Administrators can use preset rules or
customize their own to filter profanity,
sexism, racism, and other offensive content;
rules can be applied at a departmental or
even user-group level.
Note: The following are minimum system
requirements only. Actual requirement will
vary depending on the nature of your
environment.
